Santa Fe Station
Client: Bosa Developments
San Diego
Bosa Developments of Vancouver, BC,
is one of the biggest companies presently redeveloping large
areas of downtown San Diego. Bosa selected Condon-Johnson
& Associates (CJA) to install shoring for the Santa Fe
Station project.
The Challenge
The Santa Fe Station project consisted of a forty-five foot
deep cut adjacent to the primary north-south rail line of
Burlington Northern railway in San Diego County. The soil
consisted of silty sand, which predominates the downtown geology.
The Solution
A shoring system of soldier pile and lagging was utilized
to shore the site. The intricate wall setbacks indicate the
accuracy possible when placing installations of this type.
Soldier piles were installed utilizing a drill/drive
method. A Soil Mec 825 performed the drilling and the piles
were subsequently driven with an ABI. Three rows of removable
tiebacks were installed by duplex drilled methods utilizing
Klemm 806’s.
The Result
CJA as shoring contractor, coordinated carefully with the
excavating contractor and the dewatering contractor to deliver
this project on time and under budget.
