Stone Columns
Stone columns are formed by the introduction
into the ground of a vibrating probe which forms a hole by
compacting the loose soils and permitting passage of the probe.
Once the probe has reached plan depth, gravel is introduced
and compacted. Methods utilized include the dry bottom feed
method and the wet top feed. The compaction of the soils increases
the bearing capacity of the soils and lessens its vulnerability
to liquefaction.
